NXT Takeover: Rival this past Wednesday brought me to the conclusion that is my very honest and opinionated headline.
With the exception of Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn, who have spent a good amount of time in the main event picture of NXT. Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, and Hideo Itami are all excelling and proving themselves to the NXT and WWE brass what the rest of the wrestling world already knew about for years.
While the majority of wrestling fans express their love for NXT, the purpose of the developmental system is starting to work better these days as a finishing school for the main WWE roster than as a true developmental system.
WWE has a preference to stand behind guys that they have started in the WWE Performance Center more than their proven free agent acquisitions.
WWE’s track record in the past few years speaks for itself. Seth Rollins, Cesaro and Dean Ambrose have successfully advanced to each have a significant spot on the main roster from the current incarnation of NXT, but not the same can be said for the likes of Adam Rose, Fandango, Big E, and Bo Dallas have floundered.
Just want to point out how many of those floundered NXT call-ups are amped-up extensions of their real persona and how many of those are just one-dimensional gimmicks. Just saying! -KOP
P.S. This post did not include any discussion of the NXT Womens (or Divas) division, which is doing just fine, yet WWE has a problem with elevating them onto the main roster.
