WWE has moved CM Punk’s profile from the main roster to the alumni roster. His contract has expired. It’s time for the arena chants to die down and face the reality that the Best in the World is gone from WWE for good.
It might take a while for the casual fans to learn that Punk’s disappearance has now become a permanent vacation, they need to know that since the Royal Rumble we have a slough of new main event players that are in the mix to cheer for.
Fortunately for WWE, Daniel Bryan’s chase for the WWE World Heavyweight Title basically overshadowed a lot of what CM Punk was doing. Also unfortunate is that CM Punk fans were criticizing his promos and even his in-ring work as if he was not working with any motivation and that he was simply rolling with the punches.
I compare CM Punk’s departure to a couple of examples. Sports fans can relate this to the legendary Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders. Entertainment fans could compare this to comedian Dave Chapelle. Excellent in their craft but chose to go another direction at the peak of their fame and performance.
I can totally understand how fans cannot come to grips with one of our favorite wrestlers not giving us an explanation why they are leaving. Better to just let it happen. Maybe someday, we’ll get an answer. Meanwhile, talk about a good reason to go back and watch the title match at Money In the Bank ppv from 2011 and see how Punk is very much saying goodbye to us again. -KOP
