WWE NXT in 2016: Build Better Tag Teams; Keep Free Agents In Place

NXT has grown to its peak since its move to Full Sail University. The likes of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, The Wyatts have carved their spots on the WWE main roster and the investment of the brand for developmental purposes have finally started to pay dividends.

Tag team development should ultimately be the focus in NXT. Big Enzo and Cass, Vaudevillains, Hype Bros, Blake and Murphy, Jordan and Gable and Dash and Wilder are seeing a lot of time and are getting better with time. A couple of these teams would be good fodder for one of the most popular factions in WWE in the New Day. WWE is prepped to really make their tag team division a serious commodity.

Adding one or two NXT teams into the tag team roster of the Lucha Dragons, The Usos and the PrimeTime Players could really shape the tag team division to get  equal exposure as the singles division.

Meanwhile, free agent indy pickups have been utilized in a good way. Only a selected few wrestlers have been called up to the roster, but some promising developmental talent have muddled in mid-card mediocrity. That is one of the things that NXT must continue to do better with in 2016.

In my opinion, there is no need to see Finn Balor, Hideo Itami, Samoa Joe and Apollo Crews should not need to brought up between now and Wrestlemania next year.

I think WWE needs to continue to build on the nucleus of their main roster around the former members of the Shield, the Wyatt Family and give some additional pushes with the likes of Neville, Kevin Owens and continue to give a second shot to wrestlers like Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, Ryback and Rusev.

NXT needs to stay the course with their veteran talent for the new year, and focus on building tag teams from its developmental roster. There are a few women wrestlers like Emma and Dana Brooke that I could see move up soon.

Sami Zayn might be the one singles wrestler that I think will get called up and hardcore WWE fans will want him to be called up.

NXT is a great brand as it is right now. It has the rebellious excitement of the ECW of the 90s and Ring of Honor today while finding a perfect balance to give their Performance Center prospects a great platform to perform on. Let’s hope it stays that way. -KOP
